With London Fashion Week Men’s starting a week today, the British Fashion Council (AKA the BFC) has launched a new campaign “This is London”; celebrating community, diversity & culture at the bi-annual event.

In a series of fresh portraits and images, shot by London based photographer Markn, each shot includes a diverse selection of people from the worlds of art, music, fashion, film & sport with a mix of globally established names and current tastemakers, all driving forward London’s culture and reputation, representing the city in their own unique way.

The campaign is a testament of the city’s diversity and creativity and highlights the relationship between the creative industries. The Chief Executive of the BFC, Caroline Rush, who has been very vocal on topics from inclusivity to how BREXIT will affect the UK’s fashion industry said, “London is a city that is globally recognised for its creative talent and businesses. We’re extremely excited to launch this campaign for LFWM June 2019 and to celebrate not only the designers, but also the broader creative community who all play a vital role in our industry’s culture and reputation.”

With all eyes on London from Monday for Donald Trump’s visit then going onto London Fashion Week Men’s, this campaign feels very much a PR exercise for the capital as it does for the industry. But that’s just me being cynical and displeased at our city, our capital and our nation hosting the American ‘president’. All of that displeasure and cynicism is dispelled when you see on the London Fashion Week twitter page each of the talent answering the big question from the BFC – what they love most about the city, what separates it from others and how the capital creatively defines them.
