I am a sucker for a great backpack, and even more so for one that is made from premium leather. Couple that with the fact that anything Made in England – bonus points for Made in London – is destined to make me part with my money, then I’m sold on Alfie Douglas. For the last five years the brand, who proudly claim both a family name and business, have been carefully developing a new British premium accessory brand in London. From concept to prototype, every piece starts life in their design studio in the heart of London which is a great example of how home-grown ideas can manifest into capital success stories of this caliber.
Of course, many could argue that form has overridden function, however the leather is predominantly vegetable tanned which means the leather is not damaged by chrome processing, and therefore is easier to control – strapping is made from quality bridle leather secured by solid metal rivets, solid cast rings, reinforced hand stitching and solid cast brass buckles, and takes one hour to craft into place.
These two are my stand-out pieces from the men’s collection; the medium and large buckle back-packs that are perfect for exploring and enjoying life in and around London.
