Another Tuesday has arrived and another exclusive drop has landed at Mr Porter. Whilst this is becoming something of a habit, it is not getting the slightest bit boring. Today, Thom Sweeney has debuted its exclusive ready-to-wear collection for SS14, a first for the label owned by Thom Whiddet and Luke Sweeney. The buyers, I understand, at Mr Porter are hugely excited at this offering that offers all of the labels elements but brings it to a wider audience. Individuality, quality constructions, refinement and slim styling all make up the aesthetic of Thom Sweeney which is defined by a signature of forward looking silhouettes. This collection highlights the flattering waisted jackets, natural but roped shoulders, high arm holes, slim sleeves and minimal canvassing. It’s old school Savile Row minus the time scale and stuffiness.
In sort, the collection is based around two key tailoring silhouettes; one formal with a structured shoulder and one with a softer casual shoulder and silhouette for sophisticated dressing, with both available in either single or double-breasted in the signature Thom Sweeney cut. Now you can’t get much better than that for off-the-peg.
