Really great news this week ahead of next weeks London Collections: Men that sensation Shaun Samson (I have been onto him since the first, you should have noticed...) has been picked by Opening Ceremony as the Best Breakout Menswear Designer of 2012. ...Chosen by OC men's buyer Jesse Hudnutt: "I remember stumbling on a photo from Shaun Samson's first FW11 graduate collection and wondering, "How'd he do that?" I immediately hit him up for a small order (which sold out) so I could find out. Shaun seamlessly morphed a white Aran knit sweater into thick woven Woolrich fabric by hand felting pieces of fabric together with needle punches. Shaun combines clever, unexpected techniques and fabrics with a penchant for the subcultural style of southern California, which gives his collections a cool edge. His 3D metallic boxing quote T-shirts (made for OC's London opening) were a huge hit with OC customers and have been worn by the likes of Jay-Z and Frank Ocean—the pierced cat T-shirts are sure to sell out fast.
