LA Diary: Topman x Melrose Ave

OMG, Topshop/Topman is here! Come to me my missed muse, and oh, just how much have I missed thee! I am loving the James Long collaboration for guys at the moment, all pcitured here, but this coming is from the City of Angles.

Yes, a lesson learnt here is that my UK fashionistas must never ever take Topshop/Topman being just around the corner from them for granted. Being in LA now for nearly two years, my weekly fix of browsing, which nearly always results in buying, something from one of my favourite shops, has been greatly missed. I cannot tell you how happy I am that it will finally be two minutes from my door next Spring! Whoop!

But that's still a few months away I hear you cry! Topshop, being one of the sassiest and trend setting, affordable and funky brands in the world has opened a pop up store on Melrose Avenue. I popped by this week, so excited to see the new collections, brimming with flare and edginess I cannot wait to try on and strut around Hollywood in.

Only today after my gym session, minding my own business curling my hair, a lady practically grabbed my leg, wanting to touch my awesome Topshop trousers. Speckled with grey, white and black, it gave me such pleasure to tell this woman that she too can also have these and much much more, ensuring she can visit the showroom for herself. I did though have to be very clear that she would have to try her luck with this as Topshop is so heavily in demand and elite, viewings of the collections are strictly on an appointment basis only. By a huge want over here from everyone from actors and models to the usual Hollywood stars, booking slots are difficult so you better get emailing now I guess while there is still time - topshop.melrose@topshop.com

The fabulously large, bright and fresh showroom is a tasty amuse bouche before the permanent location opens at the swanky Grove in Spring 2013. On arrival, after making an exclusive booking with the stores stunning Head of Personal Shopping, Soulmaz, I was greeted by a lovely gentlemen donned in the latest style from Topman, a bowler hat with skinny jeans and a denim shirt. Simple but chic, he welcomed me in and let me glide around the floor, swinging between each beautifully displayed wrack of charming and exotic clothes.

Lots of leather and army greens, studs and denim, this fall we shall be posing our way down the boulevard true Topshop style! What I love and adore about this brand is that there are new items of clothes every week. Like my favourite quirky stores on Melrose, Topshop offers fresh on trend fashions every 7 days making it grab while you can, an urgency that one, you might miss the chance so bag in early, which in turn, two, means if you do, you are less likely to see anyone else wearing it!

The collections have been expertly edited from the UK based stores and Los Angeles should brace itself for a label in my opinion that is so twisted and expertly executed with not only a great team of designers and staff, their motto and friendly expertise really puts them in a league of their own for men and women's fashion straight off the catwalk.

We are seeing a superb range of leather minis and shorts, ankle boots and structured blazers and trenches from the JW Anderson capsule collection. Topman is offering similar shapes, colours, themes and textures making the Hollywood celeb a deliciously dashing and sexy bold Brit in a way!

I have the amazing opportunity to bring you the newest designs from the Topman collection every week as they are delivered straight off the boat from the hand picked UK headquarters.

With LA already decorated in its annual Christmas get up, the sun is still shining but there is a chill in the air making it the perfect time for those chunky knits and cosy fabrics. Topman AW12 ombre designs are seen alongside with seasonal favourites such as the festive Fair Isles and traditional cable knits. They can be worn casually with chords over the weekend or even under a blazer or button down shirt for the working week.

The collection, branded 'heavy metal' presents us with a grungy but styled look. Available are denim shirts detailed with a splash of dotted studs on the collar and mid washed denim gilets and stud neck t-shirts. Teamed with skinny black jeans and pumps, it's a guaranteed winner with the younger rocker here.

I am loving the white button up with studded collar paired with their luscious velvet suit jacket with leather look on the lapels. Classy but sharp, I can see this look dazzling the red carpet and seductively paving the Sunset Strip. Peace corps cord collar wax jackets in soft orangery browns and 'villain' trench coats with strap detail make for an excellent casual to smart look for those colder days and strolls on the beach.

I shall be bringing you lots of pictures from the exclusive showroom next week and a great insight to the talented celebrity stylist, Reinaldo Irizarry, who I had the pleasure in celebrating the launch of his new book 'Style Protocol' last week. A sophisticated evening bash on the trendy top end of Melrose, the popular stylist welcomed celebrities and fashion bloggers to see his tips and rules for the fashion following man. I'll reveal all from his detailed bible next time.....once I can put it down or tear it away from my male friends
that is! Ciao for now!

  1. The James Long collection jumpers look great in the photos but not in person. I bought the cream cable knit one and sent it straight back the next day, the quality just wasn't good enough.
