After the great success of the Topman Design, Californian inspired, SS13 collection at the London Collections: Men this AW12 collection is a storming offering. The first trend that Topman LTD is showcasing is the Correspondent, which is based on the explorer and anthropologist aesthetic. The trend references early 20th century cultural icons such as Leonard Woolf and Arthur Ransome, where the look also borrows heavily from the arts and crafts movement. Wood block prints like those used on the early book covers of the Bloomsbury Press are key to creating this more organic, hand crafted approach to design. This is mixed with simpler, utilitarian styles and garments like those used for travel and exploration in the first half of the last century. The scientific study of birds and animals is also a strong influence on print stories in this trend. I adore the all over butterfly print shirts which are teamed with tweed overcoats, 3-piece slim fit suits that are worn with bold patterned shirts and utility style jackets which are complimented with heritage style knitwear.
Arriving in stores and online on the 24th July, I almost feel compelled to go follow in the foot-steps of Charles Darwin.
