SHAUN SAMSON
There was a bit of an expectation from Shaun Sampson and he didn't disappoint at the Topman & Fashion East MAN show at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. His past collections have referenced the native/tribal prints of South America, and that was what some were expecting although some were anticipating a natural development. Although not deviating from this in inspiration - he looked at social and anti-social groups through sports teams and urban street tribes.
The Latino touch, not unfamiliar with the San Diego bred designer, was seen on over sized t-shirts in the form of calligraphic Gothic lettering, whilst his love of dip-dye was seen on jersey tops and he continued with fabric experimentation with faux fur applique details.
AGI & SAM
With an inspiration that pointed towards the Apocalyptic, perhaps Agi and Sam were expecting something to go horrendously wrong with their first LFW show. Previously twice showing as part of the MAN installations, this was a triumphant show of young, fresh talent that has now got the Twitterati and editors jumping for design joy.
The story behind the collection is about how they have travelled through the future, just before the Apocalypse, where the last men on Earth are replicating the finest cloths of the past from recycled plastics. Yes, this collection is made entirely from recycled plastics, replicating natural cottons and jerseys.
Vibrant, modernist and with nods to the late, greats M.C Escher and Stanley Kubric, this was a storming collection from talent that knows no bounds.
ASTRID ANDERSEN
Astrid Andersen is the second of the MAN collective to take to the catwalk for the first time, with a great and unique take on sports-luxe with plenty of street attitude. Astrid's inspiration for this collection, which came last, was hip-hop from America that nods to the Wu Tang Clan that is both brotherly but chaotic.
Whilst each man are individuals with their own quirks, they are essentially on the same path, with this ideology at the heart of Astrid's design process. A colourful and vibrant - both visually and aurally - the show took Astrid's background in innovation and creativity to new heights.
GUESS WHO WAS OUTSIDE?
YUP, CK MODEL AARON FREW IN A PIERS ATKINSON HAT

Lol I was waiting in the queue for Christopher Shannon with Aaron! His Astrid jumper is too amazing... I would really love to have been at the MAN show, all the collections looked to die for.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't speak but he seems super nice. The collections were great, such talent!
