LFW AW1 Menswear Day - Lou Dalton

Firstly, many thanks to Lou Dalton for letting me return this season, and to Vogue.co.uk for the images - excellent seat, bad angle - as this was a highlight of the day. We waited for a couple of minutes as a War Time soundtrack of old school music and other ditties played before this simple War Time love story inspired collection was presented. A small room in Somerset House, the Portico Rooms are an intimate setting for this nostalgic collection, focused around a conscripted officer. Forced to adapt to rural civilian life, he gets caught up in a whirlwind romance with a land girl from his locality.

This story draws on both country and military garments, both tested to withstand the outdoors. Lou has a particular talent for knitwear and this was evident, once again, in this collection that used cable knits, and I particularly liked the large melange roll neck, below. It really was a wardrobe for a rurban warrior, taking that nod with the urban nomad's 'My Own Private Idaho' and the use of Harris Tweed in the biker jackets references the breaking down of social taboos of class, race and sexual orientation - a social awakening.

Overall? An outstanding collection that deserves all the power behind it for a bigger and better space in June.
